i consider buying tickets to a Pursued By Bear production is an investment rather than a cost.
— Raymond's Theatre Reviews

Pursued By Bear is dedicated to producing rarely seen musical theatre works with a lot of heart. Strong believers in creating paid opportunities for individuals in the Arts, Pursued By Bear has focused on staging intimate productions with bold creative visions.

Our catalogue of work includes Next To Normal (2013), the Australian premiere of High Fidelity : The Musical (2014), John & Jen (2015), Green Room nominated tick, tick...BOOM! (2016), the Australian professional premiere of First Date : The Musical (2016), the Victorian premiere of 21 Chump Street (2017), and Ordinary Days (2017).

Established in 2013 with hope to challenge and inspire Melbourne audiences through inventive and thought-provoking theatre, Pursued By Bear has grown to be at the forefront of independent musical theatre in Melbourne.

We are so grateful for the support of the wonderful people around us, especially at our home-away-from-home Chapel Off Chapel, and for the opportunities to work with such incredible Artists.

Pursued By Bear continue their quest to outdo themselves with every new production, so it’s always a delight to see their shows.
— Stage Whispers

Founded in 2013, Pursued By Bear began their story at Shirley Burke Theatre, Parkdale, with an acclaimed debut production of Next To Normal. They were approached by Chapel Off Chapel to transfer for an extended season and, well, they've never quite left.

Seven shows, five years, two greenroom nominations later they're still tirelessly plugging away at producing great works with great people.

Frustrated by the notion that Producers were merely mystical figures who controlled the purse-strings, Pursued By Bear was founded with open communication channels and a desire to create and inspire friendly, supportive, and collaborative work environments. In keeping with this essence, the core-trio of PBB are all involved hands-on in each production. They can be found at as many rehearsals and meetings as they can swing, not to mention every performance. Sometimes they can even be found selling programs and scanning tickets, or on-stage making coffee for audience members (here's looking at you #firstdateaus).

Entirely self-funded, Pursued By Bear is grateful for the past support of Volvo Bilia South Yarra, Tall Timber, and City of Stonnington. They are also incredibly grateful for you, dear theatre-goer. Thank you for your support.
